Rehabilitation in Spinal Muscular Atrophy; A Narrative Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a group of genetic diseases that cause muscle weakness and mobility problems. There are no clear clinical guidelines for assessing rehabilitating individuals with SMA, despite its increasing prevalence. This study aimed to provide comprehensive review physical therapy's effectiveness in improving treatment outcomes SMA by analyzing existing literature. A search was conducted Pubmed, PEDro Google scholar using relevant keywords. Studies on assessment, treatment, rehabilitation were included the review. The found assessment must be comprehensive, approaches include exercise training, positioning, orthotics, aids, chest physiotherapy, contracture scoliosis management, aquatic exercises. Physical therapy improves quality life children at every stage disease. However, there still insufficient evidence managing people more high-quality studies needed.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disorder which affect nervous system and is characterized with progressive distal motor neuron weakness. The survival motor neuron (SMN) protein level reduces in patients with SMA. Two different genes code survival motor neuron protein in human genome. Skeletal and intercostal muscles denervation lead to weakness, hypotony, hyporeflexia, respiratory fa...

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord and resultant weakness. The most common form of SMA, accounting for 95% of cases, is autosomal recessive proximal SMA associated with mutations in the survival of motor neurons (SMN1) gene. Relentless progress during the past 15 years in the understanding o...

Childhood spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the survival motor neuron (SMN) gene. The severity of the disease is dictated by the copy number of a second copy of the gene, known as SMN2, with higher copy numbers associated with milder forms of SMA. This is because the level of SMN protein produced by patients dictates the severity of the dise...

BACKGROUND Hereditary proximal spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a severe neuromuscular disease of childhood caused by homozygous loss of function of the survival motor neuron (SMN) 1 gene. The presence of a second, nearly identical SMN gene (SMN2) in the human genome ensures production of residual levels of the ubiquitously expressed SMN protein. Alpha-motor neurons in the ventral horns of the ...
